We learn that Mr Larcomb has been officially appointed architect to the Manawatu Permanent Building and Investment Socity. During the past month the ranks of our local volunteers have been considerably strengthened. This is probably owing to the steps being taken to enrol the militia. In reply to the offer of services by the Bulls Volunteer Cavalry Corps, the following telegram from the Defence Minister has been received: — "Regret we cannot accept services of Volunteer Cavalry at pivseut as we have no arms . to spare beyond what will be necessary for arming the principal towns on the Coast of Now Zealaud."
