THE NATIVE MINISTER AT OPUNAKE. THE MAORI SCARE ALL HUMBUG. (UNITED PBBBB ASSOCIATION.) Oponake, Sundhy. The Hon. Mr Ballanco met a deputation of the Parihajca Road Board on Saturday at Rahotu. The deputation assured him that, speaking from their own knowledge, tlie Maoris of the district were more friendly than they had ever been. He met a second deputation at Puugarohu, consisting of men who have circulated the whole of the disquieting rumors concerning the natives. Their stories had all been previously investigated by the Government officers m the district. The interview with the deputation bore out the fact that the rumours had been circulated for the purpose of bringing a large force back to the district causing Government expenditure.
