Tho counsel for the Now Yealand Rifle Association, iti an action brought against them by Lieutenant Purnell, of Wanganui, have filed a statement of defence. The statMßont contains a general denial of the plaintiff's claim, isasmnch as the decision of the Executive Committee being final, the plaintiff could not question. CHEisTcnußcn, Monday. A woman named Barbara Hialop, a widow living by herself, committed suicide by hanging herself this evening. She has been suffei'ing from melancholia for some time past, and was known to be not m her right mind.
