Cr Park's Denial.
We have made some inquiries as to what Cr Park did say to Mr .Fenton re the former s action, as a member of the Finance Committee, With regard to tha account due to the latter for service* rendered to the Ratepayers' Committee. Cr Park expressed himself to the effect that he was glad to have an opportunity of explaining away any misapprehensioa Mr ientoninighthave entertained with regard to his (Cr Pack's) action m the matter. He went on to aay that he -wit sorry he had opposed the payment of' the account, and that had he known as much before as he did then he would have acted differently. He could assure Mr Fenton that he would not make any op* position m future to the payment of the account. We cannot understand why Cr Park should feel ashfcined of his action, or attempt to deny what he sai(L Surely it is more creditable to acknowledge an error and proffer to atone for it thin to bluster it out and refuse to make reparation. Cr Park suffered m the estimation of no person by his action m apologising to Mr Fenton, but his subsequent denial wilf nqt receive gommeridatiQn ; id 1 in* quarter. As we said" before he has ojrtr sympathy m the unfortunate position m which ho now finds himself placed. If he wishes to avoid censure he should endeavour to act consistently ; bat his atti» tude frem first to last m connection with this matter has been such that it cannot be wondered at that he does not feel satisfied with himself, and that the public withhold their approval of hi* conduct.
