Owners ol property should^ construct ditches on ? the -land 1 (.hey owned and not on other peoples. If a precedent of .this kind were established it would be. hard to tell when it would end.' Mr Mathieson thought that the construction of a ditch as required by Mr Podevin would do a great deal of good to the settlers and m no way interfere withi the- existing' road, his experience,/ had always been that such dikos were constructed m the . road or portion of it 1 at least. The Chairman also supported the ap- I plication as -did also Warden Alters, there being therefore no seconder to Warden July's amendment it was dropped and a ' Resolution proposed by the Cliainnan to grant the application was carried. ; ■ An application from S. Lancaster, to fall bush on. road line m Fitahorbert was ■ granted., . i i Messrs Julius Anderson and Volkert waited on the Board and asked porniis- '. sion to erect a Bft fence. I Application granted on the understanding . that the fence should be removed ;• when/ever the Board desired. * 1 The deputation also complained of stoppage of water on their sections for want of drainage, decided that the settlers residing and affected by this.nuisance should construct a drain under the supervision of the Engineer and at lii« estimated to be n^ade out of the rates coming from the properties affected. , The Board then adjourned for luncheon.
