A person using toul language m the hearing of Mr Ward, R,M., on the Palninrston Railway platform on Thursday evening, after being requested to desist, and refusing to do so, was given m charge, Mr Ward undertaking to give evidence himself if necessary. As the Herald remarks: — " We trust that this action will lead to a greater respect for the feelings of other persons from those m the habit of rendering themsolves unpleasant m this manner. The only son of the Hon. Wi Tako, Nratata, M.L.C. died at Gisborne on Sunday last from consumption, at the residence of his uncle, Paora Farau. The deceased, Mr Wire Wi Tako, who waR 23 years of ago, was well-known m Wellington, where for Rome time he occupied the position of a clerk m the Native Office. Deceased had also served as telegraphic operator at Timuru, Much sympathy is expressed for the bereaved father m the death of his son, who was highly esteemed by all who knew him. On going into the stable the man discovered that a big black snake had taken up hia quarters m Vespasian's | feeding-box. A hew method of washing butter has been patented m Germany. Tho particles, as soon as gathered m the churn (about one-tenth of an inch' m size), are removed to a centrifugal machine, the drum of which is perforated and lined, with a linen sach. The machine is rapidly revolved and the buttermilk escapes through the perforations. ; a spray of water being injected into the revolving drum washes out all the foreign matters adhering to the butter. When the wash-water comes away clean the washing is stopped, the revolutions being continued until the last drop of water is removed. The dry butter is then taken out, moulded, and packed. The product, it is claimed, h»is a finer grain, flavour and aroma, and much better keeping qualities than when prepared for market m tho ordinary way.—Auckland Weekly Netos.
