!■ .. ■ ■-. - *..-;. -■■ :: There was a fire alarm a few minules before 9 o'clock last night. The locality was m Main-street being a house occu piod by Mr Remnant, from which the occupants wi-rd absent at the time. Tlie fire was first seen by some people who had been at the Wesleyau service, and who having effected an entry, promptly took steps to extinguish the flames, and thus saved the building from total destruction. The firo is supposed to have originated from an arm chair, the *seat of which it is surmised ignited through some sparks mm the fire place to which it stood m close* proximity. The back poitioii of thehouse, m which tho firt had taken hold, was a good deal charred, but the damage caused will not be vevy heavy. The building had a very narrow escape from total destruction.
