Reception of Bishop Redwood.
On the arrival here of Dr Redwood, the "Roman Catholic .Bishop of Welling y ton, on Saturday last, the members of that denomination assembled m large numbers at the Church m Broad-street, where, on the arrival of the prelate, the 'following address was presented to him, being read by Mr Weight, on Initial fof the Catholics of Pahnerston North :— To the Right Rev. Francis Redwood, Bishop of Wellington. May it please your Lordship — The Catholics m this part of yonr diocese herein express to you our pleasure to receive you here to-day after a lapse of some three years, and to testify towards you our most dutiful devotion and respect. : We are aware that your absence from amongst us for such a length of time was due not from intention, but force ot circumstances, which called you to Europe, Sydney, and also important places m your es'ensive. See. We therefore congratulate you upon your safe return after having performed those sacred duties so nobly and so well. As Catholics we are certainly proud to have for our Bishop the author of those learned and eloquent discourses delivered by you m Sydney; Dunedin, and elsewhere, all breathinc the sound and orthodox doctrines of our Holy Faith, and teeming with edification. We ar,e also proud to congratulate you on the completion of your giand and noble work ...the building andestablishing.of St. Patrick's Col'egfi, a work indeed that you may yourself for ever look upon and think ot withloveand pride. Unfortunately your Lordship's devoted subjects m this district are not so favored by fortune as m others. you may know, but m union with pur self-sacrificing and devoted. priest, we will^stand side; by side and to the best of our ability assist m the battle for religion and education which your Lordship is fighting so nobly and so well. Though our reception is by no ; means what we would wish, 'yet we feelconfident your Lordship will make ample :alloWnc6^ for the deficiencies when we-: assure you it is spontaneous and from our hearts. •In concluding we shall pray that the Almighty God may continue to 'shower his blessings upon you, and preserve your health, your great intellect, and your piety, vigorous, green and fruitful, as the Shamrock of our dear old land.' May the structure which you have come, to consecrate be a source of honor and gl.pry to God, of joy and consolation ■to our priest, "and of spiritual wealth and blessings to the Catholics of the district. ;On behalf of the Catholics of Manawatu we hereby subscribe ourselves, :— F.
