Coach Accident.

FULLER PARTICULARS. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Masterton, Monday. The coach from Woodville to Masterton was capsized this morning a little on this side of Mauriceville. The following passengers were on board : — Dr Lemon, of Wellington ; Mr Thomas Hill, of Opaki ; Mr Perry, of Masterton, on the box seat along with the driver ; Mr A. Shaw and Mr G. Humphries, of Wellington ; Mr Hansard, of Napier ; Mr -McLochlin of Opaki, and Mr Wilton of Masterton, on the top of the coach ; two Sisters of Mercy, from Napier ; Mrs Gordon, of Masterton ; Mr Morris, of Oamaru ; Mr Copper, of Auckland ; Mr Bezar, of Featherston ; and Messrs Maitland and Hoffins, of Masterton, being inside. The coach left Woodville at 5 in the morning, and all went well until shortly after changing horses at Mauriceville. The vehicle had just passed over the bridge at Stoney River, when the off hind wheel came off, and the coach was overturned; throwing off those on top and box seat, all „of whom escaped with but slight injury except the driver, who was jammed underneath one of the lamps and sustained an injury to his back, believed not to be of a serious nature. Of those inside, Mrs Gordon received a bruise on the right cheek, and her right side is slightly injured. The elder of the revered ladies received a scalp wound through striking one of the rafters of the coach ; the others were uninjured. Every attention was paid to those injured by the residents in the neighbourhood, and another coach being secured the passengers reached here four hours late. The accident was caused through a flaw in the axle, and no blame is attached to the driver. Fortunately the accident did not occur a second or two earlier when the coach was passing the steep embankment, otherwise fatal results must have followed. The two reverend ladies met with a coach accident last week, between Napier and Woodville.
