Island Bay Racing Club, was heard. The case arose out of the Anniversary Race Meeting, at which the Club paid out the totalisator money on the Consolation Race, on Little Scrub, the horse that won the race, after a dead heat with Talebearer. The plaintiff holding that the money should have been 1 divided on ; the first race, and paid respectively to the depositors on each horse. In the lower court the Magistrate gars his decision m favor of the club, and it was from this decision that Dark appealed. After an argument, the judge dismissed the appeal, with costs. What is looked on as a very important discovery has been made m No 2 tunnel of the Champion Copper Mining Company. The vein was cut off by fault 122 feet from the mouth, and the inauoger hns been seeking a continuation of the ore body, and has now met with a 'strike of on«, richer m quality than before. Mr Honrich has not yet proved whether the new ore body is onlj' a pockel or whether it is a large body, hut indications of opening large ore bodies m this direction are said to be highly favorßble. The discovery of rich ore between the Champion and United workings is looked on as one of the greatest importance. It is anid that smelting will corn>n<.*nce n<*xt week.
