We hare received a pamphlet entitled " A farmer s views on land Nationalization, and the working of the New Zealand Land Act by our esteemed townsman Mr James Bell, to which we will take an early opportunity of re ferring. From a cursory dip into it here and there we . should say the pamphlet would well repay perusal, as it evidences considerable originality and depth of thought. A settler of some 45 years' standing has just passed away m the person of Mr Samuel Gaskin, who died at his residence, Makara, on Friday last. Mr Gaskin, who had attained the ripe age of 77, arriving m the Colony m June 1541, by the ship . Catherine Stewart Faroes. He subsequently settled down on a farm at Makara, having resided for some years m Wellington' and also at the Lower Hutt. Tho deceased gentlemau had a large family, and leaves some eighty or ninety grand children and great-grandchildren, besides numerous other relatives and frieuds to mourn his loss.— Wellington paper.
