SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Council wa s held last evening. Business — To receive balance-sheet. Present — The Mayor, and Crs S. Abrahams, R. S. Abrahams; McNeil, Hawkins, Rush, and Stewart. The Mayor stated to the Council the nature of the business they were called together for, and informed them that the balance-sheet was ou thn table for inspectiou. After a number of questions had been satisfactorily answered by the clerk it was proposed by Cr McNeil, necouded by Cr Stewart and carried, That the balance-sheet as prepared and certified to by the auditors be received as correct. : . . | The estimate* of receipts and expenditure were then considered. i Cr West wished to have explained a couple of items m the maUer of expense,, one of £40, Charitable aid. The reply was that this was merely an estimate. • Cr Abrahams said that same was to include furnishing. The Mayor stated that they were not pledged to lay out more than that amouut. • .
