A few years a^o a Miss Fraucea Hranuelli met a young sea captain whoieslup was then m port. A strong attachment sprung up between them, but the young lady's family «JiJ their utmost to prevent the ouree of their true lovo from running smoothly. Jn due time the captain sailed with his ship for the Mediterranean Sea. The ship was wrecked m the Strait, of Gibraltar, and it was reporjeil to Miss Hrnuelli that her lover had gone do wn with his vessel. She refused to credit the report, and l>elieved that her family had originated it for the purpose of separating her and the yonng captain. This so insenaed her chub she vowed never again to open her lips m speech. For seven years she has kept this resolution, aiid t ; c ' el^ forts of her 'friends to induce her to Weak it have l»een unsuccessful., Not long ago n man called upon Miss Hranuelli anil informed her that be was a passenger upon her lover's ship, which had been wrecked as reported, although he, the captain, und several o*hers were re.-.cued. He also told her that the captain had informed him of his ill-sLaiTcd love affair, anil attributed its unhappy issue ro tit" interfei ence of t.e young lady's friends. The captain is now a weil-to-do resident of a Russian city, and is s'.id anxious to wed the silent woman.
