A Remarkable Speech.

Much amusement. has been created m Glamorgai>shirs t»y » remarkable speech by • Mr John Jones, delivered before the Mumbles Local Board. It appears that a deputation presented theinselvpa before the Board to protest against the ill-usage of donkeys at Mumbles Head, received at the hands of their drivers. The deputation waa iutroduced by. Mr Jon«s, who said the question wag a peculiar one, but one with which, he considered, it was within tho province of the Board to deal. It might be said that, aa an assembly of asses, they might approach the question with acer tain amount of brotheily love. They knew from Holy Writ that m the days of th« Judges of Israel valiant Samson Blew a multitude of Philistines with the jawbone of an ass, and tie had often thought that the inhuman treatment the poor asaes received was due to the dead Philistines calling upon posterity to avenge them, for since the Samson episode the vendetta had gone on, to the disgrace of humanity. Mr Jones, continuing, said—l presume the deputation ■elected me to plead the cause . of the poor asses as the biggert ass on the Board—but whether this is so -or not I care nothing. AH I ask is this, let us ply our jaw-bones to-night, so that we shall determine to do all we can to improve the condition and lighten the distress and suffering of our fellowcreatures—the asies outside the Board —and prove the truth of the poet s words— "A fellow-feeling makes as wondrous kind." Let it not be said that we are careless or unfeeling m this matter. I havo much pleasure m introducing the deputation ; whose labours I hope will have the effect of ameliorating the condition of the asses inside and outride the Board.
