CEMETERY AT ASHURST.
(To the Editor,) Bin,—The Asliurst public have long seen the necessity of obtaining a cemetery site somewhere in the vicinity of the town, but the difficulty hitherto has been that of obtaining a suitable | site from Government gratis. This difficulty might have been easily surmounted had a few pounda been subscribed for the purpose of purchasing a couple of acres in a desirable plac?„, and this money would liave h"~"i 10paid.to the trustees b"purcliasf-s ifiYiicli Time' and Death must surely "bring. However, with instinct worthy of the stern Puritans of the Commonwealth, the " elders " of the town have covetously turned their eyes on our very popular pleasure ground, where public picnics are held every holiday throughout the year, and that spot they desire to monopolize forever with their bodies, that their tombstones may reprove and depress the spirits of those, who, seeking to dispel their daily cares, have sought a day a enjoyment on the border of the naturalforest reserve. May our pleasure ground be saved from the fate which threatens it.—l ani&e., Yodth. Asliurst, June 3rd. 1896,
