She experienced a terrible hurricane,/**- • poop deck, batches, bulwarks toy! Boats were smashed, the decks completely cleared and the cabins flooded. A seaman named John Ansen waß washed overboard and drowced. The steering ""gear was damaged and the vessel became unmanageable, and narrowly escaped foundering,, but when the storm abated the steering gear was righted and she arrived in a battered condition. Dunsdw, July 15. ■ The barque Ben Nevis left Glasgow on March 81st for Dunedin and Wellington, with 1420 and 430 tons of general cargo for each port respectively, which was consigned to Murray, Eoberts and Co., and she was commanded by Captain E. J. Simms. .
