Public School & Teachers' Salaries Bill.

Wellington, October 15

A gathering of somo thirty members met this afternoon, Mr Meredith in the chair, to consider .tho Public School Teachers' Salaries Bill. Strong opinions antagonistic to tho measure wore expressed, espeoially as regards the clauses virtually depriving Education Boards of all power. A committeo consisting of Captain Russell, and Messrs T. Mackenzie, Piraui, Meredith, Biiddo, and Hogg were appointed to~draw up reasons for opposing tho Bill. The committee met and recommended that the measure bo not allowed to proceed, and that during the recess the Education Department prepare a scale of colonial salaries to be submitted to the Education Boards, and Teachers' Institutes for suggestions, the wholo questions to he submitted to a select committee of both Houses.
