POHANGINA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent) The meeting of ratepayers interested in the Pohangina bridge was held in the Schoolroom on Saturday night, the Hall being engaged previously. Owing to the flooded state of the river, several residents from the eastern side were debarred from being present. However, about thirty-five ratepayers were present, and Mr Whitehead was elected to preside. A general discussion ensued upon the various si es for a bridge, the majority being against the present site chosen by the Council, and the Ferry site was generally favoured. Finally, the following resolution was carried: — That a deputation wait upon the County Council's secretary and engineer and obtain the Government and Council's engineers' estimate of the cost of the bridge at the Ferry ford, and report to a further public meeting to be held in the Hall on Saturday afternoon next.
