ALLEGED MURDER

CASE IN BRITAIN. ACCUSED WELL KNOWN IN THE SOUTH. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Dec. 4. Merrett who is charged with the murder of his mother, at Edinburgh, was well-known in Dunedin and Oamaru. Accused came to the Dominion with his mother during the war. Previous to entering the Waitaki Boys’ High School lie had a serious fall from a cycle and as a result was in hospital with injuries to head and nose. This prevented him participating in most sports, although lie was an excellent swimmer and was extremely popular among his class mates. The mother and son booked passages to England through a Dunedin firm 18 months ago. The mother was in the habit of carrying a revolver while here. The son was particularly venturesome. On one occasion he created a mild sensation by a foolhardy expedition in a motor boat.
