THROUGH THE ROOF.
SAFE-DOOIt’S FLIGHT. VIOLENT EXPLOSION. BRISBANE, Nov. 23. Shortly after two o’clock on Saturday morning a crowd of people awaiting the arrival of the RockhamptonBrisbane mail train at Gympie railway station were startled by a Joud explosion at the grocery shop of Thureclit Bros., 100 yards distant. In the bright moonlight a large black object was seen to burst through the roof, accompanied by sparks. Two men walked casually out of the store's front door, but ran when chased by police 'officers and railway porters, and dropped a swag on the roadway. Both were caught. Later in the morning Arthur Currey, aged 25, and Jacob Russell, aged 20, were remanded for eight days on a charge of breaking and entering. SAFE SHATTERED. The iron safe in the store had been shattered. The force of the explosion was so great that the door was blown through the roof, cutting a jagged hole through the ceiling. The swag found in the roadway contained plugs of gelignite, detonators, a coil of fuse, brace and bit, skeleton keys, a cold chisel, hack saws and electric torch, gloves, files and a first-aid kit.
