HAWKE CUP CRICKET.
WANGANUI, Dec. 3. The Hawke Cup match, Taranaki (challengers) v. Wanganui, opened today under ideal conditions, the wicket being a trifle soft. 'Taranaki, winning the toss, batted first for 188, of which Kingston, former All Black footballer, contributed 64, made by artistic cricket. His wicket was sacrificed through overeagerness when he was caught behind the stumps. Of the Wanganui bowlers Bernau, V. Williams and Holland were most useful. Wells, a young lefthander, proved expensive. With half an hour left for play Wanganui opened disastrously by losing Dempster, who got in front of Clarke, whilst Orr played all over a straight ball’ from Petty. Two wero down for 17 when stumps were drawn. Details are as follow:

Playing at Bombay, a Hindu team scored 356 runs, or only seven less than tho Marylebono team.
