FOXTON NOTES
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. [From Our Own Correspondent.] A .committeo meeting of tho Foxton Horticultural Society .-was held on Friday night, being presided over by Mr D. Christie (president). Tho financial statement in connection with tho summer show was presented and showed a credit balance of £3 7s Bd. The president said that tho statement was very satisfactory. Taking tho weather conditions into consideration, tho show had been very successful. Entries for sweet peas and roses had been weak, but hero again the weather could bo blamod and not tho exhibitors. Under tho circumstances the show had been very creditable and ho predicted a bigger balance in the future. Accounts amounting to £32 Is 4d were passed for payment. It was suggested that something should be done to encourage exhibitors in the vegetable. section in the future. The president said that it would bo a good idea to obtain the services •of somo capable person to visit tho gardens and point out vegetables worth exhibiting prior to the show.
Mr Peryman suggested combining the fruit and vegetable sections.
Tho town hall committeo was accorded a vote of thanks for uso of tables and Mr Goldsmith a similar compliment for his assistance as judge. Mr Tyer brought up the question of holding an autumn show about March and the president suggested a small show in tho town hall supper room. Mr Murphy considered an autumn show should bo very successful and it was agreed to hold a special general meeting early in tho new year to discuss tho matter fully.
