EARWIG PEST.

GROWTH IN NEW ZEALAND

COMBATANT PARASITES ARRIVING.

Received December 6, 9.20 a.m

LONDON, Dee. 5. The entomologist, Dr Tillyard, sailed by the Corinthic, taking wtih him 250 parasites of earwigs intended to destroy earwigs in New Zealand. The parasites are scarce during the present year, necessitating Dr Tillyard searching throughout Europe. They cost one shilling each. He is also taking several kinds of insects which, it is hoped, will destroy the blackberry brambles. Before they are liberated the parasites will be tested to ascertain their effect on other plants.—A. and N.Z. cable.
