CROSSING A RIVER

SINGLE MAN DROWNED. Per Press Association. TATJMARNUNI, Dec. 6. There was a fatality in tho Wanganui river this morning, when Thomas McKenna, a single man, aged 30, together with three draught horses, was drowned. McKenna was riding in a dray driven and owned by W. W. Webster and they were crossing tne river to view a metal deposit on- the opposite side preparatory to working it to-morrow. The horses got into deep water and were drowned. Webster and McKenna struck out for the shoro, the former landing in an exhausted condition. McKenna suddenly disappeared, when apparently swim-* ming strongly. Webster valued the horses at £IOO.
