LICENSING COMMITTEE.

QUARTERLY MEETING.

The quarterly meeting of the Palmerston Licensing Committee was held to-day at noon Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presiding. Also on the bench were Messrs C. N. Clausen, A. J. Graham, W. F. Durward, W. R. Birnie and J. M. Johnston. An application by William Wareham (Mr Ongley) for the renewal of'his license in regard to the Princess Hotel was granted, the chaff-man commenting that everything was now satisfactory in regard to this hotel. Applications for transfers of publican’s licenses were granted, in the following cases: Masonic Hotel, May Mulrooney to Frederick Henry Rennie (MiCooper); Railway ’ Hotel Ernest Mawson Earle Stevens to John Peach (Mr Ongley) ; Junction Hotel (Longburn), Oswald Upton to Louis William Cross (Mr Oakley). . ' When application was made by Mr Merton on behalf of Arthur Steer for a temporary license in respect of the Post Office Hotel the chairman stated that the committee wasjpf the opinion that, if the hotel were to be carried on, it would have to be rebuilt. However, the committee was . prepared to give the applicant a license for a few weeks so that he would have the opportunity to formulate his plans. The license would be till the end of January.
