. Dean Carrington has announced his intention to retire at the end of 1927 a c tT being associated with the Church of England in the Christchurch diocese lei in New Zealand since 1903. Dean and Mrs Carrington will probably retun to England to live. .At the completion of 42 years’ service Vith the Railway Department, Mr A. iK. Harris, general superintendent of transportation, has given notice of his intention to • retire on superannuation. Mi Harris’s resignation will taka effect as from February 1 next. He was district traffic manager at Wanganui from 1919 until February, 1922. Mass Johansen, of the municipal office staff, was warmly complimented nt the. conclusion of the Borough Council’s inquiry last evening by the Deputy-Mayor (Cr Graham) upon the efficient and indeiatigable manner in winch she had reported the investigation. Miss Johansen was accorded a vote of thanks by the council. Mr R. W. Hope, captain of the Old Boys’ Cricket Club, who will be entering hospital in the near future to undergo an operation, was at last night’s meeting of the Manawatu Cricket Association accorded a motion of sympathy in hi s illness. Together with Mr N. Gallichan, Mr Hope was nominated for inclusion in the New Zealand team to visit England; but under the circumstances the nomination has had to be'withdrawn. The death has occurred of Rev. John Enright, the newly-appointed minister of St. Enoch’s Presbyterian Church, Morningside, Auckland, at the age of 59 years. He came to New Zealand three months ago, and, after making a lecturing tour on behalf of the Protestant Political Association, accepted the charge at St. Enoch’s. He was inducted on November 25. Mr Enright is survived by his wife and daughter. The Dominion Meteorologist (Mr D. C. Bates) has received advice that he was re-elected a member of the International Commission of Agricultural Meteorology at the international gathering of meteorologists at Zurich in September last. Mr Bates was first elected to the position six years ago. Members of the commission for Eng- » land are Sir Napier Shaw, Dr. Simpson, and Mr R. A. Fisher, of the Rothamsted experimental station. Sir Napier Shaw was formerly director of the London Meteorological Office, and Dr. Simpson now holds that position. The Australian member of the Commission is Dr. S. Griffith Taylor.
