HEAVY TOTAL THIS YEAR. [By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. The strained economic conditions of the past year are reflected in the bmkruntev figures for the ten months ended with October, which show that the year will produce a record number compared with preceding years, in which the total has frequently exceeded five hundred. That for the last ten months amounts to 690, and the distribution of theso failures is as follows: Auckland' 2^9 AVellington 198 Christchurch 89 Dunedin’ 45 If the number of petitions in bankruptcy keep up to the average for each month, the remaining two months of the vear will bring the total up to * record, With a good deal to spare.
