PROBLEM IN FRANCE.

FOREIGN UNEMPLOYED. FACTORIES DISPENSE WITH MANY MEN. PARIS, Dec. 6. A big problem in France is the fate of foreigners, numbering 200,000 or 300,000, who arc likely to be thrown out of work in the process of revalorising tiro franc. The recent inflation gave the French trade an artificial stimulus, and every factory clamoured for men, until, it is estimated, that three million foreigners are working in France. *

The iron factories around Paris are already discharging half their men, and two of the biggest motor firms are dispensing with the services of from two to three thousands hands apiece. The Lyons silk factories, the Roubaix and Tourcoing textile works, and the Rougeres boot manufacturers are also feeling the pinch.—A. and N.Z. cable.
