WEST END SCHOLARS.
ANNUAL PANTOMIME. Last December, Mrs J. Oswald Telford presented the West End scholars in a pantomime version of the fairy tale,. “The Babes in the Wood,” the production evoking very favourable comment and reflecting much credit on both producer and the talented performers. At the moment Mrs Telford is busily rehearsing the West End scholars in another pantomime for production on Thursday and Friday of this week. And the extravaganza is to be a version of the evergreen favourite of childhood days—“ Dick Whittington and his Cat.” Tho romantic adventures of Dick, who starts life a Eoor lad, setting out on the broad ighway with his faithful henchman and plainly hearing the bells of Bow chiming their prophetic message, “Turn Again, Whittington, Lord Mayor of London,” lend themselves particularly well to tho building of a bright show of musical numbers, ballets and comedy work; and in all these departments of stagecraft the West End scholars will assuredly excel. Mrs Telford has a strong caste of principals in rehearsal, including Molly Penketh as Principal Boy, Maisie Puklowski Principal Girl, Peggy Jarvis as the Eastern Princess who tries to lure Dick from his true love, Jim Woodlands as the Emperor and Billie Herron as the cat. There is to be a big chorus acting in the accepted pantomime style, and they will support the soloists in such favourite tuneful numbers as “Picador,” “Butterfly Land,” “Beware of Chu Chin Chow,” “I love the Sunshine,” etc. The public will bo assured of a splendid entertainment, and for convenience of the townspeople and others buses will leave the Square for West End at 6.40 and 7.5 on both evenings of the pantomime.
