LYTTON STREET SCHOOL. •MEETING OF COMMITTEE. [Special to ‘^Standard.’’] FEILDING, Dec. 8. A meeting of the Lvtton Street School Committee was held on Monday night, Mr Jas. Penney presiding. Also present were Mrs Sandford and Messrs Heald, Jenkins and Smithers. Apologies for absence were' received front Mrs Dowrick and Mr Parsonage. The headmaster, Mr R. L. Mcllroy, in his report stated: “The average attendance for the month of November was 340, being 90 per cent of the average roll number of 376. The present roll number is 375. Graham Miller, a pupil of Standard 6, has been awarded a prize of five guineas by the Victoria League in an essay competition. The proficiency examination was held on Thursday last when 29 pupils obtained proficiency certificates and one competency certificate. There were no failures. Three girls are at present absent at Dr. Gunn’s health camp at Turakina. The boys’ shelter shed was blown over in a gale a few weeks ago and it is now being erected on a more suitable site. There is a good growth of grass showing on the lawns recently laid down and a lawn mower will be needed shortly to keep them in order.lt would be a great convenience to the caretaker to have a tap fixed to the water main outside the offices. The board has notified me that the. summer vacation is to commence on Friday, December 17th. The report was adopted and it was resolved to forward a letter of com gratulation to Graham Miller on his success in the essay competition. The headmaster and staff were a’so congratulated on the excellent percentage of passes obtained at the recent examinations. All arrangements in connection with the breaking-up of the school for the Christmas and New Year holidays were left to Mr Mcllroy. The ceremony is to take the form of a children’s afternoon and an address to those about to leave school. DISTRICT NURSE. Rev. Canon Petrie presided over the usual monthly meeting of the District Nurse Association when accounts amounting to £5 13s lOd uere passed for payment. Sister Sugden reported that 34 families had received 154 visits. Donations were received from Mr 1 1 . J. Evans £3 3s, Mrs Miles 10s v Miss Calvert 10s, Foresters’ Lodge 17s Od, “Anonymous” 4s and clothing from Mrs Watt, Mrs Newman and friends. Clothing and food were given to six families and breakfast and travelling fare to one person. Donations of food and other gifts towards Christmas cheer would bo gladly received by Sister Sugden. CRICKET. Only one cricket match was plaved on Saturday in Feilding, Public Service meeting High School in the 11 grade fixtures on the latter’s ground. Public Service won by 12 runs.
