LAWN TENNIS. [From Our Own Correspondent.] Tho tennis match played at Shannon on Saturday between Levin B and Shannon B teams resulted, after a very interesting day’s play, in a win for tile home side by 15 sets to 9. The results were as follow, Shannon players being mentioned first:— Ladies* singles: Miss M. Brown beat Miss McDonnell 6—l; Mrs Whibley beat Miss Alloway 6—4; Mrs Easton beat Miss Fretchling 6—4; Mrs McGucken beat Mrs Messenger B—6;8 —6; Mrs Merwood lost to Miss Caldwell o—6; Miss Sinclair beat Miss Ensor 6—2. Men’s singles: F. Murray lost to Evans 3—6; S. Jones beat Percy 7-—5; Cronquest lost to Todd I—6; G. Frank beat Messenger 6 —2; H. Curran lost to Phillips 4 —6; YV. Goodwin beat Emmett 6—3. Ladies’ doubles: Alisa Brown and Mrs Easton beat Miss McDonnell and Miss Fretchling 6—2; Mrs Whibley and Mrs McGucken beat Miss Alloway and Mrs Messenger 7 —5; Mrs Merwood and Miss Sinclair beat Miss Ensor and Miss Caldwell 6—2. Men’s doubles: Murray and Jones beat Evans and Percy 6—2; Frank and Curran lost to Todd and Messenger 5—7; Goodwin and Gronquest lost to Phillips and Emmett 5—7. Mixed doubles: Miss Brown and Murray beat Miss McDonnell and Evans 7—5; Mrs Easton and Jones beat Miss Alloway and Percy 6—4; Mrs Merwood and Frank beat Miss Fretchling and Todd 9—7; Mrs Whibley and Cronquest lost to Mr and Mrs Messenger 6 —B; Mrs McGucken and Goodwin lost to Miss Caldwell and Phillips 5 —7; Miss Sinclair and Curran lost to Miss Ensor and'Emmett 3 —6. The local tennis A team, who journeyed to Levin on Saturday, lost the match by 11 sets to 13, but report a splendid afternoon’s sport and hope to be able to meet Levin again before Christmas on the local courts. The results were: Mrs Moynihan lost to Mrs Bennett; Mrs Cronquest lost to Miss Bevan; Miss Jones lost to .Miss Caldwell; Mrs Morgan won from Mrs Porter; Miss G. Brown lost to Mrs Hinde; Miss D. Jones won from Miss' Best; Picard won from Arcus; Humphries won from Bevan; hunt won from ——; Mabev lost to Thompson; Hennessey won from Hartley; Pope won from - ——; Mrs Cronquest arid Miss G. Jones.won from Misses Bevan and Galdwtell; Mesdames Moynihan and Morgan won from Mesdames Bennett and Porter; Misses Brown and D. Jones lost to Miss Best and Mrs Hinde; Picard and Humphries lost to Arcus and Bevan; Hunt and Mabey lost to Thotupson and partner; Hennessey and Pope lost to Hartley and partner; Mrs Moynihan and Hunt lost to Mrs Bennett and Arcus; Miss Jones and Humphries lost to Miss Bevan and Bevan; Miss Brown and Picard lost to Miss Caldwell and partner; Mrs Morgan and Hennessey won from Mrs Porter and Thompson; Mrs Cronquest and Mabey won from Mrs Hinde and Hartley; Miss D. Jones and Pope lost to Miss Best and partner. Mrs A. Venn, who for the past two years has been on a visit to England, has returned to Shannon. Foxton B Cricket Club forfeited to Shannon on Saturday.
