WHEAT CHARTERS.

EFFECT OF DISPUTE. LONDON, Nov. 30. In the House of Commons to-day Colonel Perkins (Conservative, Southhampton) asked could steps be taken to adjust the -wheat chartering dispute bo as to avoid loss to British shipping. The president of the Board of Trade, Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, said that he hoped to see a settlement, but his department could not usefully intervene. Sir Frederic Wise (Conservative, Ilford) : Are foreign ships getting into the Australian trade more than usual? Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister: That question does not arise, but I will get the figures. The dispute is between charterers and shipowners concerning the terms of the charter party. Charters are announced of three steamers, the Century, 535, January loading, S.A., Victoria or Sydney; Calonne, 51s 3d, DeSydney; Ferncliff, 51s 3d, December-January, S.A., Victoria or Sydney. The ships have been fixed on the old charter party, but as they are already in Australia or in the vicinity, it is considered that the charters have no bearing on the dispute. The suggestion that foreign ships are benefiting is scouted in Sydney shipping circles.
