DAIRY COMPANIES.

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the executive of the Manawatu and West Coast Dairy. • Companies’ Association was held this morning, Mr S. A. Broadbelt (Levin) presiding. Others present were: Messrs C. G. C. DSrmer (Cheltenham), J. W. Teale (Kairanga), T. Ranford (Whakarongo) and P. Hansen ' (Awahuri). Apologies for absence were reoeived from Messrs R. G. Dalziell and H. E. Pacey. GROUPING OF FACTORIES. Returns showing the quantity of butter and cheese exported during the year ended March 31 last by the dairy companies in -wards five and six were received from the Minister of Agriculture. i

'The secretary (Mr R. H. Spencer) reported that copies had been forwarded to all members of the executive. , The information had been sought for the purposes of making 'a protest regarding the grouping of the factories in the district, some being put in one ward and the rest in another, and, after a brief discussion, it wa6 decided to hold the mattbr over till the next meeting.

PROPOSED DAIRY AWARD. • A copy of a resolution was received from the Apiti Dairy Company expressing strong disapproval of the award as proposed by the Wellington Creameries, Cheese and Butter Factory Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers, and suggesting that, in view of its unsatisfactory working, the Government should be asked to abolish the Arbitration Court and to have the preference clause to unionists deleted. The chairman commented that, in his opinion, the principle of the Arbitration Court was quite sound, but that the clause regarding preference to unionists should be abolished. After further brief comment, it was decided to hold consideration of the matter over to the annual meeting.
