UNEMPLOYMENT POSITION.
A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT.
“There was a slight improvement in the unemployment position at Palmerston North during the past month,” reported the charitable aid officer (Mr J. Aisher) at this afternoon’s meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board. “The number of ‘casuals’ calling on me has dropped slightly,” he added. Mr Aislier’s monthly report mentioned that during the month £4B from the Mayor’s fund was spent "on food for distressed families and £5 oil firing. During November 23 “casuals” were assisted at Palmerston North at a cost of £5 14s, as compared with 10 at a cost of £1 18s for the same month of 1925. In addition three assisted at Shannon cost £1 and two at Levin 15s. Last year no cases were assisted at the two latter plaices. Relief given through the ordinary charitable aid channels as distinct from “casuals’ assisted amounted last month to £33 10s, as compared with £2l 10s for the corresponding month of 1925,
