R.S.A. SECRETARY
• MR W. G. RUTHERFURD HONOURED. In honour of his approaching marriage, Mr W. G. Rutherfurd, secretary of the Palmerston North Returned Soldiers’ Association, was met yesterday afternoon by the members and made tho recipient of presentations on their behalf. Mr.B. J. Jacobs, club president, presided. Addressing the gathering as one who had been intimately connected with the association, —he alluded to the most Eleasurable nature ’of the function. If, e said, during his term of office the only thing whifch had happened was the appointment of Mr Rutherfurd to the secretaryship, he would have considered the presidency worth while. “Wattie,” as he was popularly known, had filled the position with distinction and was most deservedly popular with members. Mr Jacobs extended felicitations to Mr Rutherfurd and his future wife, wishing them a long and happy life. Mr Jacobs then hafided Mr Rutherfurd two silver entree dishes and a set of silver spoons and forks as a mark of appreciation for his excellent services to the Anzac Club.
Mr Rutherfurd suitably replied, assuring members that their gifts would always occupy a place of honour in his home. He had, he said, always done his best for the club, although naturally one could not succeed in pleasing all. On behalf of his future wife and himself he thanked the members for their gifts and the president of the club personally. The gathering concluded with cheers for Mr Rutherfurd and his bride-to-be, following which the popular secretary was personally congratulated by those present. .
