MOVIE STRIKES.
STUDIOS CLOSING. GREAT ALLIANCE OF UNIONS. HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 1. The “movie” industry is facing a crisis, as a result of an ultimatum by four unions demanding unionised studios after December 1.
The unions concerned are the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees, the United Brotherhood of . Carpenters and Joiners, the International Brotherhood of Painters, Paperhangers and Decorators, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. On receipt of the ultimatum, the biggest studios discharged their employees wholesale in all brandies. The Fox Corporation alone laid off 165 men.
Night camera work was instituted in an effort to finish pending pictures before the ultimatum expires. It is reported that the Mack Sennett comedy studio will close permanently.
