HOSPITAL AFFAIRS

MONTHLY. BOARD MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board was held yesterday afternoon, the chairman (Sir James Wilson) presiding. There were also present: Mrs L. A. Abraham and Messrs J. A. Nash, M.P., Vincent, Bramwell, Collis, Mood;?, McLean, Ryder, Broadbelt, Greenhow, Catley and Smart. MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. The medical superintendent (Dr. L. Frazer) reported that, for the month ending November 30, 178 patients were admitted and 174 discharged. Six had died and 123 were in hospital on December 1. The daily average was 123.77. Operations for the month totalled 79. MATRON’S REPORT. The matron (Miss M. G. Davies) recommended Miss P. E. Donkins’ appointment to the staff for training. Probationer McCormick had had to relinquish her duties on account of illhealth. Probationer Ellerby also sought to be relieved of her duties. Donations as follow were acknowledged : Books and papers, Misses Miles and Forrest, Mesdames Bredin, Braddon, Whitehead, Bagnall (Rongotea) and Kilminster and Mr Wm. Scobie. OLD PEOPLE’S HOME. The report of the matron of the Old People’s Home disclosed that, on November 30, there were 42 irpnates—--33 males and nine females. A much appreciated outing to Woodville had been given the inmates by the Rotary Club on November 17. MANAGING SECRETARY’S REPORT The managing secretary inter alia reported satisfactory progress on the work in connection with the nurses’ home, a commencement having been made’ on the rear block which would contain 28 bedrooms. The reconstruction of the main drive had been commenced, but the recent wet weather had delayed the work which might not now be completed before Christmas. OTHER REPORTS. The secretary of the Feilding District Nurse Fund reported that 34 families had received 154 sick visits during the month of November. The. district nurse at Mangahao reSorted that a number of minor accients had occurred there, while many, both children and adults, had been affected with colds and throat affections. GENERAL. Mr A. V. Heisenberg, secretary of the Hospital Boards’ Association, Wellington, wrote advising of the conference to be held on March 2 and 3, 1927, and inviting tho board to forward remits. —Messrs Hornblow and Vincent were appointed the board’s delegates to the conference. The Department of Health wrote approving of the agreement entered into by the board with the friendly societies. —Received.
