Mrs and Miss Bagnall have gone to Wellington for a few days. Miss Sanderson, of Auckland, is at present staying with Mrs Ewing. Mr and Mrs J. P. Mcßae have returned to Kai Iwi. The death occurred on Sunday at Wellington of Mrs Duignan, widow of the late Mr Richard Duignan, who was for so many years in business in Thorndon. The late Mrs Duignan, who was 84 years of was formerly Miss Ridley, of Christchurch. She leaves a famiiy of one son, Mr Richard Duignan, and two daughters, Mesdames .B. Weybourne and Hambley, both of Wellington. A well-known figure in educational circles in Auckland, Mrs Sarah Anne Moore-Jones, founder of the. Ladies’ College, Remuera, died on Saturday at the advanced age of 91 years. Mrs Moore-Jones was born in London, and trained at Cheltenham Ladies’ College. She was a member of the Royal College of Preceptors, London. Later, she was mistress of Kensington School. She was married to the late Mr David Moore-Jones, and came to New Zealand with the family in 1884. She was at first employed under the Education Board, but 27 years ago she founded the Ladies’ College, of which she was principal until her retirement about eight years ago. One son lives in Auckland end another is at Fiji. The eldest son, the late Mr Horace Moore-Jones, a well known artist, lost his life while bnavely attempting to assist in rescue work at a fire in Hamilton. Two daughters have conducted the Ladies’ College at Remuera since the retirement of their mother from the active work of principal. LADIES’ GOLF. BOGEY COMPETITIONS. Bogey competitions were played by members of the Ladies’ Golf Club on the Manawatu links yesterday the best scores returned being:— A grade.—Miss N. Innes (15), 2 up; Miss Ekstedt (15), 3 down; Miss N. Moore (9), 5 down. B grade.—Mrs J. Grant (22). 3 down ; Mrs B. Jacobs (17), 4 down; Mrs J. W. Rutherfurd (25), 5 down.
The junior competition, over 14 holes, was won by Miss L. Millar, 101—12 — 89.
LADY SWIMMER
MISS ENA STOCKLEY IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY. Sept. 10. Miss Ena Stockley, the New Zealand swimmer, arrived to-day by the Ulimaroa. She stated that she was delighted to think that she was going to live in Sydney. Miss Stockley expects to take part in the coming swimming championships.
