THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. Tho cyclone in tlio Tasman Sea mentioned yesterday _ lias intensified, but pressure is very high in the South Tasman and South-Eastern Australia. Winds moderate to strong south-west south-east, backing gradually to southe-ast and in northern districts; later north-east Seas rather rough on parts of the West Coast and about Foveaux Strait, but mainly smooth to moderate. Moderate to strong south to east winds, and moderate but rising seas in the Eastern Tasman Sea. vVeather mainly fair generally, but with increasing cloud and hazej some scattered showers, chiefly in districts with a westerly aspect. Weather cool from Canterbury southwards v ith some night frosts; elsewhere modenate temperatures. DISTRICT REPORT. SCATTERED SHOWERS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day : —Tho indications are for moderate to strong south-easterly winds and freshening. The weather will probably prove squally and changeable, and cold with scattered showers. The barometer is rising sjowly. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon—2ft.
