DAIRY INDUSTRY.

FACTORIES’ ASSOCIATION. The executive of the Manawatu and West - Coast Hairy Companies’ Asso-. ciation met this 'morning, Mr S. A. Broadbelt (Levin) presiding Also prfesent were Messrs G. H. Stiles (Shannon), P. J. Small (Kairanga), P. Hansen (Awahuri), C.G. C. Dermer (Cheltenham) and H. Pacey. The Government regulation under which it is compulsory to issue dockets showing a supplier’s cream' grading was criticised by Mr Stiles, who stated that the Shannon Company thought the regulation harsh and involving extra labour and expense. He could not see the sense in having to issue the notes if a supplier was shown when his cream dropped from finest to first grade, and that should be sufficient. At present, the Shannon company were issuing only first and second grade notes. Mr Hausen stated that suppliers of the Awahuri factory were supplied with dockets every day showing the weight and grade of the cream. The practice at the Levin, factory was to issue a ten days’ docket, stated Mr Broadbelt, with immediate notification of a drop in the grading. Fortunately, very little first and second grade cream ever came to the factory. “If we sent dockets out-daily we would have to put on an extra strainer, as we sometimes now find a few dockets in the vat,” he added. Mr Stiles remarked that there was really no need to issue finest dockets, as a supplier only wanted to know when his grade fell. At Mr Pacey’s suggestion, it was decided to write to the Dairy Division, asking if the regulations might not be amended to make it compulsory for grading notes to be issued for first and second grades only and, if the regulations could not be altered, to advise the association of the reason for them.' Future meetings of the association are to be held on the third Monday of each month , and next meeting Mr Pacey is to give an address on his overseas impressions.
