GENERAL FORECAST. The cyclone is now centred east of Norfolk Island. The anti-cyclone has moved from the Tasman Sea across the North Island, and is gradually passing away eastward. Winds east to north-east north of New Plymouth and Napier; elsewhere north-east to north-west; freshening generally and reaching gale force in North Auckland. Seas rough north of East Cape; elsewhere moderate mainly, but rather rough at times in Cook Strait. East to north winds in the North-East Tasman Sea, and north to north-west in the south-east portion; moderate to strong generally; seas moderate, but rising. Weather mainly fair, but cloud increasing over the North Island, and rain setting in over North Auckland and extending to parts of the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne districts. Scattered showers also about Foveaux Strait and on the West Coast of the South Island. Milder temperatures. DISTRICT REPORT. MILD TEMPERATURES. The Government meteorologist reported: The indications are for northerly or westerly winds, moderate to strong and freshening at times. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather, •with scattered showers later. Mild temperatures may be expected. The barometer is unsteady. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon—2ft 2in.
