CRIME IN SYDNEY
SENSATIONAL HOLD-UPS. MASKED GUNMEN ACTIVE. CONSTABLE IN HOSPITAL. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received September 14, 9.30 a.m. SIDNEY, Sept. 14. There were three sensational holdups by masked gunmen in the suburbs last night. At Ryde a postal official was bailed up in the post office and robbed of £4 at the point of the revolver. An attempt was made to open a safe at Glebe, and an hour later a shopkeeper in the same locality was tackled by a gunman, who demanded money. However, the desperado ran away? At Rozelle an hour later a bandit who had held up the proprietor of a "store and stolen £2O was chased by the police. , _ . , A gun duel followed; a dozen shots were fired and Constable Grinham nas shot through the groin, and later taken to hospital. His assailant esPosses of police reached the districts throughout the night. It is believed that all the outrages were the work of the same gang.
