MAIN HIGHWAYS BOARD.
INTERFERENCE WITH REVENUE. STRONG PROTEST FROM AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 13. One of the most representative protests yet recorded against any activity of the Prime Minister was voiced today when a gathering of over 60 delegates from 17 local bodies condemned the proposal to interfere with the revenue of the Main Highways Board. The meeting was convened by the Auckland Automobile Association, and the City Council, Auckland Chamber of Commerce, seven borough councils, three county councils, two town boards and two road boards were represented and 22 other local authorities forwarded expressions of opinion. Some vory plain speaking was made at the meeting, and it was resolved that a protest bo recorded against the proposals for making all payments to the Highways Board out of the loan account on the grounds that this would be against the spirit and letter of the legislation, and would sooner or later restrict tho operations of the board and interfer-o with the benefits to both'local authorities and road users. It was resolved to forward the resolution to the Prime Minister, to members of Parliament and to join with tho South Island motorists and local bodies in a deputation to the Prime Minister.
