(Frcm Our Own Correspondent). SHANNON, Sept. 13. The annual general meeting of the Mangaore Tennis Club was held on Wednesday evening, Mr I. R. Robinson presiding over an attendance of 24 members. The annual report disclosed that the club had experienced a very quiet season. Two friendly matches were played with the Shannon Club, the club winning in their second venture. The social side was not neglected, visitors from other clubs being made very welcome. Two socials were held to mark in a measure the opening day and the wind-up of the season, both evenings being a complete success. The balance-sheet showed that the receipts were ±l2O 13s 2d and the expenditure £lO 5s Bd, leaving a credit balance at the Post Office Savings Bank of £lO 7s 6d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of .officers resulted: —President, Mr I. R. Robinson (re-elected); vice-presid-ents, Messrs A. R. Blackwood, C. E. Elvines and W. A. Surrjdge (all re-elect-ed) ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr F. O. Tregurtha; hon. auditor, Mr K. S. Henry; club captain, Mr J. F. Ostler; vice-captain, Mr H. T. Hartley; management committee, the president,' club captain, vice-captain, secretary, Messrs J. 1). Campbell, W. B. King, and W. A. Surridge. Six new members were elected. Tho opening day was set down for October 12th.
Mr Cornish, of Christchurch, is visiting Shannon, staying with his sister Mrs A. R. Blackwood, of Mangaore. The Shannon Dairy Coy., Ltd., are contemplating erecting an up-to-date dairy factory, and it is understood that arrangements in this direction are being finalised. The Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild held a very successful social and sale of work in the church on Wednesday afternoon. There was a largo attendance and a programme of competitions and musical items was much enjoyed. Afternoon tea was provided by guild members and a sale stall did brisk business.
The Women’s Institute held another successful euchre afternoon on Tuesday, Mrs T. Moynilian winning the trophy. Mrs J. Osborne, who, with her daughter left last June on a trip to England, intimates in a letter to a local friend that they have had an enjoyable holiday and intend leaving England at the end of this month for Sydney, expecting to reach .Now Zealand early in November. Veil. Archdeacon A. M. Johnston, of Palmerston North, conducted the service in Von. Bede’s Church on Wednesday evening, when the induction of Rev. G. Young as vicar of the parish took place.
