UNUSUAL BOXING SCENE.
BOTH COMPETITOKS OUT. ACCIDENTAL FOUL CAUSED.., WHANGAREI, Sept. At the Minitary Boxing Club’s tournament there was an unusual end to the special light-weight contest between Howie, 9st. 31b., and Chappell, 9st. 91b. Howie hacl delivered a straight left to the solar plexus with telling effect, and was following up with, a right uppercut from a crouch, when Chappell, who was feeling the effect of the solar plexus punch, fell forward, Howie’s right taking him low. He dropped and Howie, tripping over his foot, came down on top, his mark connecting with Chappell’s knee and knocking him out. The unusual sight of two boxers out at the same time wast hus presented. The referee did not see tlief oui, and commenced counting Chappell out, when his attention was drawn to it, there being no doubt as to the illegality of Howie’s punch, although it was accidental. The decision went quite correctly to Chappe 11.
