FEDERAL POLITICS
OUTCOME OF ELECTION. STATEMENT BY SIR JOSEPH CARRUTHEItS. (United Press Association.— -By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received September, 13, p.». In an interview to-day, Sir Joseph Carruthers, M.L.C., expressed opinion that Mr Bruce would wm the elections especially if he avoided antagonising Mr Hughes. New South Wales would, lie considered, give better results .than last year. The other States would be about the same as at the last election. Sir Joseph strongly sympathises with Mr Hughes. Ho stated that JMr Hughes’s splendid leadership during the war period deserved better treatment for him, especially by the Country Party. , Knowing Mr Hughes better than most people, Sir Joseph Carruthers thinks that he would respond to a more generous attitude by the Press and the party to which he was naturally inclined—the Nationalists.
