FEDERAL ELECTION.
DATE OF POLLING FIXED. CANBERRA, Sept. 13. The Prime Minister, Mr S. M. Bruce, announced to-night that the election w r ould be held on October 12. Mr Bruce stated that lie would deliver a policy speech at Dandenong, Victoria, on September 23. . Mr Scullin, Leader of the Opposition, declared to-day that Mr Bruce would have to take full responsibility for the expense of the election. Dr. Nott states that lie will oppose Mr Hughes if it is the wish of the electorate. . . . . The general opinion in Victoria is that the Bruce Ministry will gain seats at the coming election. It is expected to gain at least two extra. WHEN PARLIAMENT WILL ASSEMBLE. Received September 14, 10.20 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 14. The constitution provides that Parliament shall meet —not later than thirty days after the return of the writs. It is anticipated, therefore, that the new Parliament will be called together toward the end of November. Mr Marks stated to-day that he would contest the Wentworth electorate whether he was selected or not.
