BOUCHER CUP

WON BY CHRISTIAN. FORTY-SEVEN AIILE 'RACE. Winning tho forty-seven mile cycle road race, which was held on Saturday, by a comfortable margin, A. Christiaan registered his third success this season in tho Boucher Cup series of events and,*by completing that record, annexed the trophy which has been competed for over three successive seasons. His performance was a good one. There were nine starters and the long course lay from Palmerston North through Feilding, back to this centre and out again to Feilding, the. journey ending at Palmerston North. Hill'was the first to drop out with tyre trouble, followed by Olsen a few minutes later with the same complaint. At the end of the first lap, S. Ward, who was riding his initial race, had retained his position off the limit mark and was leading tho field by seven minutes. Sowerby had lost one minute on AVard, AlcGregor had gained one minute, while Christian had picked up four minutes, and Collins, the virtual scratch man, five minutes. The latter covered tho first lap in 1 hour, 12 „ minutes and seemed to be going very well with Christian. E. Blakeway later returned with tyre trouble and others dropped out until eventually only three riders were left to complete the course.

Riding strongly, Christian crossed the finishing lino first, completing the fatiguing journey in 2 hours 38 minutes. After some time had elapsed AlcGregor rode in next, and subsequently Collins, who had been out-distanced, put in an appearance. Alessi’s Collinson and Cunninghame, Ltd., liavo donated a blue riband for the 55-mile Shannon-Pahnerston North race on October 9.

RACE AT DUNEDIN. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Sept. 14. The Balclutha-Dunedin 54 miles amateur cycling championship resulted: —G. Farmer (Christchurch), 2 hours 45 mins, 5 seconds, 1; R. At". Taylor (Otago) 2, C. Lucas (Otago) 3. Farmer caught the leaders 10 miles from home.
