MAORI ENTERTAINERS.

- After a most successful tour of almost every town and hamlet in the South Island, and recently in Wellington, a group of young Maoris will present one ot the most unique and outstanding programmes that has ever been staged locally. A specially selected and talented group is by no means an easy task to choose, but in this Rev. A. J. Seamer has proved an excellent judge. The tact that the services of five South Island Alaoris have been procured wilt prove that an attempt to procure the best has been successfully achieved. The programme, which will be of a very high order, will consist of lo Karanga, waiatus, poi dances, folk songs and many other different .features of Alitori life. This demonstration is chiefly for the purpose of retaining the ancient arts and crafts of Alaoridom, and for raising funds for the Alethodist Aiission in the Waikato and King Country. “The most potent inliuence in the evolution of the Maori raco has not been intellect only, but a. religious system, where there is the greatest prevalence of liberty ot religious thought, which 'endows the character with those moral qualities—self-sacrifice being by no means the least among them—which must be an essential condition of social progress. Last evening the party broadcast some very tuneful and delightful items from the ’ local station. Reception was excellent, and many listeners expressed their appreciation of the quality of the items.
