LOSS ON MOTOR TRUCK
OTAHUHU COUNCIL INVEST!-
(By which tenders were called which specified ceretain conditions, was revived on Thursday, whtfb a etetr was received on Thursday, when a letter was the necessary data as requested of them bv the council. It appears that the truck so put - chased by thee ouncil at a cost of approximately £I2OO never gave satisfaction and was a continual source of expense, being finally disposed of tor An investigation since made led the council to understand that the truck purchased by it was not a new truck as stiecified, but a reconditioned truck which had seen service in England. The matter, was further ventilated at a meeting of the council on Thursday night, when, in reply to a request that the makers should furnish the council with details and state if such truck was sent to New Zealand by them as a new truck, the manufacturers of the particular type of truck in question, advised that such a chassis bearing the number supplied was sold to a firm in London, which had purchased several in 1919 and after use had hnd them reconditioned and shipped overseas. From the facts submitted it was evident that the council had purchased one of these trucks. The firm which sold the truck to the council, stated the letter, was not, and is not, the recognised agent of the manufacturing firm. The name and address of the agents was attached, and. it was suggested that the council should pursue further enquiries through them. ... It was decided to proceed with further investigation and the borough solicitor was instructed to take any action thought necessary.
